How do you move employees and contractors on and off of coverage?

This process works similar to traditional group health plans for employees. When an employee/contractor parts ways we can have them taken off within 24 hours. And, we can have a new employee completely covered with 7 calendar days!

What happens when an employee or contractor leaves? Can he/she take the coverage with them?

At the time of an employee or contractor parting ways from the company, they'll be given the opportunity to take the coverage with them at the employer pricing. We simply provide new billing updates to the insurer.


***If they decline to take the coverage with them they will not be eligible for open enrollment through the exchange. They would need to wait until open enrollment to enroll or find another private health plan.

Why don't other employers offer contractors group health plans along with their employees?

In a nutshell, the system hasn't really caught up to that. Just 4 years ago, the arrival of the pandemic brought the remote and hybrid employee/contractor. Since then, many more employers now depend on contract labor more than they did pre-pandemic in order to help grow and run their business. Rest assured, the benefits will follow those who help businesses grow. And, the companies that do extend these benefits will have the upper-hand in recruitment and contractor-longevity.

Are there exclusions or barriers when offering coverage to contract labor?

Both employees and contractors are onboarded the same way. The main difference between the two is how the taxes can be written off. For employees, most employers receive a tax credit. For contractors, premiums are usually paid as extra income, extending the tax credit to the contractor. It's important to discuss this matter in full with a CPA. We do not offer tax advice.
